YouTube

Music teachers use computers often in their classroom to maintain the students motivation. Popular media, such as YouTube seems to use a lot in music class because it contains movies, music and other recordings for students to watch and listen. It is also useful for the students to interact with their classmates in a class discussion.
Almost most of my music classes used YouTube as a listening tool, or for the students to understand the lyric from watching the video clips. If most students are a visual learner; watching the video clips will help them better. Using this website can save time by creating a playlist, that way the teacher is organizing the order of the songs that the students needs to listen and watch.
YouTube is an educational tool for learners to learn something that they are interest in. For example, I found it easy to learn and entertain myself in learning the guitar as I listened and watched the clip. First, it was fascinating that I can do it. Its great that there was someone I can imitate to play the instrument just by watching the clip. And I can pause and go back to re-watch what I’ve watched and apply it slowly through my practice. Because this website is popular, there are more version of video clips to watch and compare or learn more about the guitar.

Since YouTube is well known where everyone uses it; it is great tool to use. Because YouTube has a lot of interesting video clips, watching them can inspire the students in various ways. For instance, when they get into group discussions as the student interact with their classmates; they can share their critical thoughts of their opinion. In which then using those thoughts they can apply that knowledge through their experiences.

  1. Youtube is awesome! I completely agree. Music is probably the most commonly posted genre of video on youtube, and it is definitely a great tool to use in the classroom. It is also a great tool to encourage students to use outside of the classroom, and encourages the sharing of music as well.

  2. Youtube is a wonderful tool to use in the classroom. In any subject it can be helpful and used to show students things that need more than just a picture in a book. As a science major there are no limitations on what youtube can be used. Experiments that may be too costly to perform in the classroom can be shown by using youtube.

  3. YouTube is absolutely wonderful and can be used to teach any subject area. My favorite are the step-by-step tutorials. As an English major, there is so much that I can use from this website. For students who have difficulty reading, there are several videos that read aloud novels and short stories, while displaying the text. This is an excellent way for students to follow along and learn to pronounce any word that they may not know.
YouTube is an excellent way to bring the outside world into the classroom. Unfortunately, several students believe that their lives outside of school are not relevant to the material they are learning in school. By introducing the use of YouTube in the classroom, students will be motivated to learn.

  4. YouTube is such a great tool. Another great thing about YouTube is that it is easily accessible to students, and free. Therefore, students do not have to be in your class to access a video, and you can thus assign any video on YouTube without worrying about whether a student will be able to get to it now. As an English major, I find myself using YouTube videos often to look up videos about something I am reading. I do wonder, though, about copyright issues in the classroom, especially a music classroom. I know that a lot of the videos on YouTube are copyright infringement; how does this affect the music classroom?

  5. Reading through the comments and many other blog posts Youtube seems to be one of the most useful technologies available for all subject areas. I agree that youtube is a great way to inspire students as an Art educator, there are many great tutorials to inspire teachers as well as students. Not only does it help to inspire students, as you stated, but I agree that it is a great tool to reach intrests of students as well as aid those who are visual learners.

Youtube is a technology that is part of the students everyday life and is familiar to them. Student mainly use it to watch viral videos, using in the classroom may open students minds to the idea of using the tool in a more productive manner.
